Rita Marie Mendes

Wareham-Rita Marie Mendes, 68, of Wareham passed away On Wednesday June 3, 2026 at Tobey Hospital.  Rita was born in Wareham the daughter of the late Victor Andrade, Sr. and Mary Rita (Mendes) Cardoza.

Rita was one of Wareham’s most generous and kind souls.  She worked for many years in food service at the Roland Thatcher Nursing Home as well as in the Wareham Public Schools, the Boys and Girls Club and Damien's Place Food Pantry Wareham.  A volunteer with a huge heart as the liaison to the disabled for the Cape Verdean Festival and her countless hours at the Onset Dudley Brown VFW Post.

Rita is survived by her siblings: Saundra Mendes Silvia and her husband Richard, Lisa Cardoza, Loretta Andrade, Jeffrey Matthews and Victor Andrade, Jr.  Aunt of Anthony Mendes, Ebony Coleman, Marisa Cardoza and the late David Cardoza.  Great Aunt of Aiden Mendes, Mia Mendes, Coleman Brito and Taliyah Cardoza.  She was the niece of Joseph Amado, Jeanette Santos and Augustina Mendes.  Loving cousin of Dolly Santos and Goddaughter of Laura Lopes and Paul Barnett, Jr. and Godmother of Danielle JenkinsSe was also survived by many loving nieces nephews relatives and friends.

Rita Mendes entered the world barely strong enough to make it and yet she fought hard to defy doctors and made a difference throughout her life by helping those in need.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday June 14, 2026 from 12-3pm in the Wareham Village Funeral Home 5 Center Street Wareham, relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, parking attendants will be on duty.

Memorial reception will follow the visitation on Sunday June 14, 2026 at the Dudley Brown VFW Post 4 Gibbs Ball Park Ave. Onset.

Committal Thursday June 18, 2026 at 12:30 pm in Saint Patrick Cemetery Tihonet Road Wareham, MA Please arrive at the cemetery by 12.
