Richard James Coyle, 86, of Wareham, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on November 8th, 2025, after a nearly decade-long battle with Parkinson's disease, which he faced with dignity and perseverance.
Richard was born on November 14th, 1938, to James and Jessie Coyle in Boston, MA, and grew up on Cape Cod. After graduating from Wareham High School in 1957, he went on to study education at the University of Miami, where he also played football. He later earned his master's degree at Bridgewater State University.
Following graduation, Richard served in the U.S. Army. His true calling, however, was shaping young lives as a high school teacher, administrator and football coach for over 40 years. During his tenure, he worked at Wareham HS (MA), New Bedford HS (MA), Miami Jackson Senior HS (FL), Miami Coral Park Senior HS (FL), Miami Killian Senior HS (FL), and Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical HS (MA).
In 1965, he married his true love, Sally, and together they moved to Miami, going on to raise two children, Ross and Shea. Anyone who knew Richard knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. He was a force of nature—determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. This Thanksgiving, Richard and Sally would have celebrated their 60th Anniversary!
A proud Scotsman, he carried his heritage with quiet strength, humor, and loyalty. Richard was predeceased by his parents James and Jessie and is survived by his beloved wife, Sally; his children, Ross and Shea; and his grandchildren, Mason and Jolie. No services will be held at this time. The family requests that donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research https://give.michaeljfox.org/
A celebration of Richard’s life will be planned and announced at a later date.
