New Bedford: Raymond W. “Ray” Kramer, 67, of New Bedford passed away at home on Tuesday November 29, 2022. He was the father of Sarah A. Kramer of Washington State, and his nephew, Jesse Kramer, who he helped raise. He was born in Acushnet the son of the late Raymond and Antoinette (Souza) Kramer.
Ray graduated from New Bedford High School in 1974. He attended Bristol Community College and then enlisted in the U.S. Army in Dec. of 1980 and was honorably discharged in Dec. of 1983. He attained the rank of Cpl. and was stationed with E Battery 82nd Field Artillery Surveyors at Fort Hood, Texas. He also worked and retired from Acushnet Company/Titleist with the nickname “Elmo” as an Inspector.
Ray was generous and well loved by his family, friends, and community. He looked out for others. As an avid outdoorsman, Ray wanted to retire to Maine in the style of Henry David Thoreau. He loved to fish and hike, hobbies he passed to his daughter. Ray had a well-known green thumb and could care for and revive even the most difficult plants. His “jungle” of plants was a highlight of his home. He loved to cook and his famous pasta sauce will be missed. He was adept at stuffing peppers.
Ray is survived by his brother, Edward “Eddie” Kramer, and sisters, Vickie (Kramer) Murray and Jeanne Kramer; former spouse, Karen Sales. He was also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Brother of the late Sheila Kramer and Kelly (Kramer) Arruda.
Visiting hours have been omitted. A committal service will be held on Thursday, December 8th at 10:45 am at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, 1 Bennington Blvd. Bourne, MA. Relatives and friends are Cordially invited to attend please arrive at the cemetery by 10:15.
In lieu of flowers, Ray would like donations to be made in his honor to local Veterans charities that support disabled or homeless Veterans. After that, crack open a beer (or drink of choice), and toast his memory in love. Salud
