Paul H. Simmons

Paul Howard Simmons, 86, of Wareham, MA, passed away on November 21, 2021.  He was the husband of Helen E. (Tibbetts) Simmons.  He was born in Brockton, MA on December 6, 1934 to his late parents, James Curtis Simmons and Irene Patricia Conefrey Simmons and grew up in Holbrook, MA.  When he was 21, like so many of his generation, Paul proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed overseas.  after returning, he married his wife Helen Tibbetts on June 25, 1960; they lived in Brockton for 3 years and then moved to East Bridgewater where they raised their four children.  Paul worked as a mechanic in the center of town before joining the East Bridgewater Police Department, as a Police Officer for 20 years.  He still loved  tinkering with cars for friends and his children,  showing them the skills, they needed to maintain their own vehicles.

Paul is survived by his son Steven P. Simmons, his wife Darlene and grandson Matthew of Manchester, NH; Daughter Linda E Simmons Poole, husband Craig and granddaughter Alexandra of Plano, TX.  Lisa Simmons of Wareham, MA and Julie Simmons DiBona, husband Christopher and granddaughters Brooke and Taylor of Holbrook, MA. His brother Wesley of Nantucket, MA and brother in-law Robert Tibbetts and wife Linda of Laconia, NH, and sister-in-law Evelyn Severns, of NH.  Paul was predeceased by His sister Ruth Macdonald and brother Raymond as well as his grandson Michael Simmons.

Paul and his family made many wonderful memories over the years.  Paul loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.  In his earlier days in East Bridgewater, he played softball and coached his son and daughter’s teams.  He and Helen spent their winters in The Villages, FL starting in 2004 where they enjoyed golfing and visits from their children and grandchildren.  In 2017 they moved from East Bridgewater to Wareham.  He loved sitting outside enjoying the view of the river and conversing with the neighbors that passed by.  Paul had a great sense of humor and enjoyed sharing stories and telling jokes. He really enjoyed watching his grandchildren play their individual sports. Paul touched so many of us and he will be dearly missed by many, but especially his family.

Services:  A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 5, 2021 from 11 AM -2 PM at Rockland Country Club, 276 Plain St, Rt 139, Rockland, MA.  Family and friends are welcome to attend.
