Michael E. Smith

Wareham-Michael E. Smith, 72, of East Wareham, went home to eternal rest on Monday, July 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Plymouth, after courageously battling an extended illness. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, cherished by his wife of 42 wonderful years, Paula (Martel) Smith. Born in Washington, DC, to the late Edward A. and Marion L. (Corkum) Smith, he lived in Forest Heights and Oxon Hill, Maryland.

For many years, Michael worked with dedication as a Sanitation Attendant at the Marion Transfer Station. He took joy in NASCAR, and he fiercely cheered for the Redskins and Orioles. He enjoyed crime dramas fiction and non-fiction alike. Michael's love extended far and wide, leaving behind a family that cherished him dearly. He is survived by his wife Paula; children Jarett Robinson of GA, Melinda Thorpe and Marcus of FL, Robert Smith and Taylor of Wareham, and Michael D. Smith of Wareham; his devoted sister Kathleen Canedy and Phillip of Wareham; nine precious grandchildren, Owen, Ashley, Samantha, Wyatt, Elyjah, Ty, Peyton, Lianna, and Stella; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends who loved him dearly. He was lovingly preceded in death by his brothers Paul Smith, Edward Smith, and Marie Wright.
