Mary L. (Rose) Saunders

Bourne-Mary L. Saunders, 87, Of Bourne formerly of Wareham passed away on Sunday April 2, 2023, at the Royal Cape Cod Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  Mary was the wife of the late Ralph E. Saunders who passed away in 2008.

She was born in Bridgewater, MA the daughter of the late Joseph and Emma (Gracia) Rose.

Mary was a devoted mother and beloved wife. She and her husband Ralph enjoyed many days together canoeing, fishing, shellfishing, visiting family and taking road trips throughout New England. They shared a passion for Portuguese cooking and Mary excelled at baking and designing wedding and all-occasion cakes. In addition to her skills in sewing and crafts, Mary also enjoyed gardening, especially her favorite flowers, roses, peonies, and hydrangeas. While living in Bridgewater, she was an active member of Methodist Church Women’s Fellowship group. After raising her children, she worked for Bridgewater State University food services and, later, Ocean Spray Industries. Nearest and dearest to her heart was Mary’s family – her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her many sisters and brothers – the hours spent visiting around the backyard picnic table and fireplace are precious memories.

She is survived by her brother Edward Rose, sisters Edith Pike, Doris Butler, Lorraine Stogner and Nancy Crest, and her children:  Jolaine Mooney (Gary) of Wareham, LuAnn Saunders-Kanabay (Gary) of Mansfield, Steven Saunders of Middleboro and Rachel Saunders-Young of Brockton.  She was pre-deceased by sisters Irene Roque, Marion Leggett and brother Joseph Rose, Ernest Rose and Roger Rose. She was the mother in-law of the Late Darren Young.  Loving grandmother of Shawn & Ethan Mooney and Sarah & Devin Kanabay.  Great grandmother of Kennedy, Lila and Finley.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday April 7, at 12 noon  in the Wareham Village Funeral Home 5 Center Street, Wareham.  Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.  Visiting hours will be held from 11-12 prior to the service.  Interment will follow in Centre Cemetery Tihonet Road Wareham.
