Needham- Mary T. "Gus" (Leary) Bergin, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 26, 2023. She was the wife of the late William G. Bergin. She was born on April 3, 1929 in Dingle, County Kerry Ireland, and she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Dowd) Leary.
Gus was an avid gardener, a passion that was exceeded only by her love of family. Devotion to family was the guiding force of her entire life. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children: William Bergin of Sandwich, Kathleen Bergin of Swanville ME, and Maureen and Peter Vanderspek, her daughter and her son-in-law, of Needham. She was also the sister-in-law of Ellen Sheil and of Ellen's husband, John. She was the loving grandmother of Kera Wiggin, of Kera's husband Jamie, and was the adoring "Gaga" to their children: Jack and Declan. She was a caring grandmother to Brie, Catherine, Lauren, Kristen, and Shane Bergin, and to Kristen's husband, Andrew Maloney. She was the loving great-grandmother to Lauren's daughter Annabelle and to Shane's daughter, Ruby. She is survived by many nieces and nephews relatives and friends.
She was the mother of the late John (Jackie) Bergin, grandmother to the late Jake Vanderspek, and sister of the late Jack Leary.
Memories of her fun-loving nature and of her generally cheerful approach to life live on.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, 12:noon, in Saint Joseph Cemetery 990 LaGrange Street, West Roxbury, MA 02132 Graveside. Saint James the Apostle Section 2A , near the VFW Parkway.
