East Falmouth – John F. Murphy, 91, husband of the late Joan P. ( Sullivan) Murphy, passed away at home on Sunday August 17, 2025 with his family at his side. Mr. Murphy was born in Boston the son of the late John and Anna (Dietenhopher) Murphy.
A Korean War veteran, John served in the U.S. Navy. He was a Union Carpenter for Local 67 out of Boston MA and then became one of the founding members of the Millwright and Machinery Erectors Union, Local 1121. He served as the Unions first Recording Secretary. He was a devoted fan of his hometown Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He loved working in his basement workshop and was well known for his craftsmanship. A hot cup of tea or hot chocolate along with toasted banana bread was his staple first thing in the morning.
He was a great Dad, husband, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his sons: Daniel G. Murphy of RI, and Michael P. Murphy of Quincy MA. Loving Grandfather of Daniel G. Murphy, Jr., Madison H. Murphy and Alyssa S. Murphy. He was also survived by many loving relatives and friends.
Committal Thursday, September 4, 2025 @ 11:30 in the Massachusetts National Cemetery 1 Bennington Blvd. Bourne, MA Relatives ad friends are cordially invited to attend and please arrive at the cemetery by 11:00 am.
