Wareham- John J. McDonald, Jr., “Jay”, of Wareham, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025, at age 93 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Boston on April 8, 1932, to John J. McDonald and Ruth E. (Griffin) McDonald, Sr. of Onset, MA. He attended Wareham Public Schools and upon finishing high school, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He received an Honorable Discharge as a CPL after serving 3 years from 1951- 1954.
He attended Northeastern University after the military and was hired by IBM in 1960 as a Computer Field Engineer. He retired after 31 years in 1991.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lynn P. McDonald, of Wareham, and his children, a daughter, Cheryl A. Salemme and her husband, Frank V. Salemme, of Dania, FL, a son Michael J. McDonald and his partner Debbie Mission, of Middleboro, MA, a son David J. McDonald of Wareham and a son Michael A. Painter and his wife Tina M. Painter of Wareham.
He was blessed to be also survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren along with his sister Nancy G. Hanaford, of Westford, MA, and a brother Donald Brian McDonald and his wife Kathryn H. McDonald of Buzzards Bay, MA.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Patricia Cowgill of Anacortes, WA. He was also survived by many loving relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday August 16, on the Agawam Annex Cemetery at 10:00 Am. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
