Joan (Gregory) Mestieri

Buzzards Bay-Joan Mary Gregory Mestieri, 90, of Buzzards Bay formerly of Wareham, passed away at home with her loving family at her side on Thursday, March 5, 2020.  Joan was the devoted wife of the late Albert L.G. Mestieri who passed away in January of this year.  She was born in Fall River the daughter of the late Raymond C. and Mary (Driscoll) Gregory.

Joan is a 1947 graduate of Sacred Hearts Academy in Fall River.  She was a switchboard operator for New England Telephone and Telegraph, CO. working in Fall River and later in Wareham.  It was in Wareham where Joan and her fellow operators would follow the local baseball Wareham Town Team that she met and married Albert in 1950.  Joan loved old music, movies and dancing.  She was an avid reader, cook ad golfer.  Joan enjoyed hosting family events and organizing family reunions.  She was everyone’s mom.  She was a former member of the Jr. Monday Club, Saint Patrick’s Circle and Little Harbor Country Club.

She is survived by her children Deborah Mestieri-Pesta and her husband Joseph of Buzzards Bay, Guy A. Mestieri and his wife Debra of East Wareham and Thomas R. Mestieri and his wife Georgianna of Indian Mound Beach.  She was the sister of Raymond D. Gregory of Swansea and Nancy Martin of Nevada.  She also cherished many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was the grandmother of the late Erik Pesta and sister of the late Helen LeVesque, Maureen Twarog and Neil Gregory.

 Her funeral will be from the Wareham Village Funeral Home 5 Center Street Wareham, MA on Wednesday March 11th at 9:30 followed by her Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Saint Patrick’s Church 82 High Street Wareham, MA.  Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.  Visiting hours will be 8:30am to 9:30am prior to her funeral Mass.  Burial will follow in the Saint Patrick’s Cemetery Tihonet, Rd.
