George Harding Obituary

George S. Harding, Dad/Grandpa, 90 died on Friday December 27, at the Royal Cape Cod Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. George was the loving and devoted husband of 64 years to Barbara L. Harding of Bourne and an adoring and encouraging father to his only son, James A. Harding. George was born in Boston Massachusetts to Fred S. and Caroline Leaver Harding. George grew up in Stoughton Massachusetts and remained a resident of Stoughton for 34 years, building their Tenth Street home along with Barbara. He and Barbara retired to the Cape and resided on Buttermilk Bay. He attended Stoughton High School and Boston Trade School. A WWII Veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, George was stationed in Saipan, as an aircraft instrument mechanic. Following his military service George, who was amazing with his hands, had various positions; Ruggiero's garage as an auto mechanic, Gill construction as a concrete form worker, Precision Door and Window and finally retiring in 1989 from Iron Workers Local 7. There was very little Dad could not repair.

Dad's passion was boating. He and Jim spent countless hours readying their crafts for each summer season and were religious in their fishing quests; many wonderful stories of a father and son's shared fervor with Barbara always waiting for their return with a warm hearty meal. George and Barbara were each other's sole mates and were inseparable in life.

George was the blessed grandfather to his sole grandson, Douglas-Jarrett Cole Turno and kind father in law to Julie-Leah J. Harding. George was an extraordinary friend to the Kelliher, Stowe and Lamkin families who are extensions of his own family. George was the brother of the late Gracie Carver and Betty Kinney. A quiet man who will be sadly missed.
