Fred J. Mendes, Jr.

Wareham-Fred J. Mendes, Jr. 92, of Wareham, passed away on October 23, 2024, at Tobey Hospital, Wareham. He was the son of the late Alfred and Mary (Cardoza) Mendes. He was the former husband of Jeannette (Santos) Mendes. He was the father of the late Robert Santos Mendes, uncle of the late David Cardoza and brother of the late Mary “Sister” Mendes-Cardoza and Joseph ‘Max” Mendes.

He was born in Wareham and lived there his whole life.  He graduated from Wareham High School.  He was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.  A construction laborer he worked for the Construction & General Laborers’ Union Local No. 385 in Fairhaven for many years before retiring.  He enjoyed gardening and washing and waxing his car.

Survivors include 4 nieces who took care of him, Saundra Mendes-Silvia, Lisa Cardoza, Rita Mendes and Marisa Cardoza all of Wareham; his sister-in-law Augustina Mendes of Mashpee; his foster brother Joseph “Sonny” Amado of Bridgeport, CT; additional relatives, Richard Silvia, Anthony & Milena Mendes, Ebony Coleman, Jason Tavares, Jade Santos, Liz Malloy, Rosemarie ‘Dolly” Santos, Aiden Mendes, Mia Mendes, Coleman Brito, Taliyah Cardoza, Robin Mendes, Keith Mendes, Joseph Mendes, Maxine Albury, Kayla Albury, Bryn Mendes, Quentin Lopes, Kyle Mendes, Cheri Amado and Tiffany Lopes.

His graveside service will be held on Saturday November 9th , 2024 at 10 am in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Tihonet Rd.
