Eleanor M. Gritte

Milford—Eleanor M. Gritte, 95, a longtime resident of Hopedale, MA, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026, at Countryside Health Care in Milford, MA. Born in Milford, the daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Consoletti) Gritte.

She attended Sacred Heart Parochial School and Milford High School, graduating in 1948. Eleanor graduated from Saint Vincent Nursing School located in Worcester, MA in 1961 and completed her internship in 1972, becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Until retiring, she worked as a surgical nurse anesthetist for the former Woonsocket Hospital in Rhode Island.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Hopedale. Eleanor also enjoyed reading, traveling, going to the theater, cooking, playing cards, and visiting with her family and friends. Her most enjoyable trip was on safari in Africa.

She is predeceased by her sister Claire (Gritte) Villani of Milford and her brother Alphonse Gritte of Florida. She is survived by her two nieces, a nephew, three grand nieces, a grand nephew, and many other relatives and friends and her late beloved Pug “Fantzi.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Church 187 Hopedale St. Hopedale, MA 01747 on Tuesday June 30, 2026 at 10 O’clock. 

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the church at 9:45 am. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford. There will be no visiting hours.
