New Bedford-Donald G. Melanson, Jr. 64, of West Wareham, passed away Wednesday December 8, 2021 at Saint Lukes Hospital. Donald was the husband of Cheryl Melanson of West Wareham.
Born in Winthrop the son of the late Donald G. and Lorraine J. (Messinger) Melanson Sr. He graduated from Wareham High School in 1976 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served with honor and distinction from 1976-1999 (23 yrs.) and attained the rank of (E-9) Command Master Chief.
He later worked for Joint Base Cape Cod in a supervisory position. He served as the Northeast Regional President of the American Federation of Government Employees. He loved everything family, enjoyed fishing and was an avid New England Patriots & Bruins fan.
In addition to his wife Cheryl, he is survived by his sons: Donald G. Melanson III and his spouse Jean, Tim Melanson and his wife Melissa. His grandchildren Jacob, Peyton and Dennis. His siblings Pamela Sorrel and her husband Richard, David Melanson and his wife Cindy. His sister In-law Dee Vicino and husband Fran. He was also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was the brother of the late John Melanson.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday December 13, from 4-7pm In the Wareham Village Funeral Home 5 Center Street Wareham. Relatives and Friends are cordially invited to attend. Funeral will be held on Tuesday December 14, at 8:15 am from the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at Saint Patrick’s Church 94 High Street Wareham, MA at 9 o’clock. Burial will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery 1 Bennington Blvd. Bourne, MA at 11:15 am. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society P.O.
