Carl Sylvia Obituary

Marion-Carl L. Sylvia, 75, of Marion passed away at home on Wednesday December 21, after a long illness. Carl was the husband of Mary Alice (Chase) Sylvia also of Marion. He was born in New Bedford the son of the late Lynn Balkom and Alice Sylvia.

Mr. Sylvia attended New Bedford Public Schools and graduated from New Bedford Vocational High School. He and his wife have owned and operated Irene's House of Flowers for over 40 years in Wareham. Carl was the former manager of the School Bus Department for the town of Wareham, a Capital police officer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and a police officer for the town of Falmouth. He enjoyed playing basketball in his youth. He was a collector of antique cars, clocks and loved a good practical joke.

He is also survived by his sister Therese Newland of Katy Texas, his brother Scott Westgate of California, his sister in law Karen Chase of Rochester and many loving relatives and friends. He was the father of the late Michael Allan Sylvia.

Ceremonies: Memorial visiting hours will be held on Saturday January 21, 2017 from 10 -12 am in the Wareham Village Funeral Home 5 Center Street Wareham, MA. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
