Barbara A. Nokes Deslauriers, 99, of Athens, died Wednesday evening, August 27, 2025 at The Lindley Inn, The Plains. Born July 25, 1926 in Brockton, MA, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Charles Nokes and Emma E. Bendell Nokes.
A 1944 graduate of Brockton (MA) High School, she received her bachelor’s degree in education from Boston College in 1955. She taught 2nd Grade and was a substitute teacher for several years. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shephard in Wareham, MA and attended the Church of the Epiphany in Nelsonville. She had been a resident of Athens for twenty-two years.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Paula (Dan) Inman of Athens; two sons, Edward C. (Courtenay) Deslauriers of Planto, TX and David J. Deslauriers of Germantown, MD; six grandchildren, Katie (Tommy) Starkey of Orlando, FL, Megan (Greg) Vogel of Athens, Emelie Deslauriers of Westerville, Sara (Sterling) Cash of Plano, TX, Bryan (Leeann) Deslauriers of Seminole, FL and David P. (Anna) Deslauriers of Millsboro, DE; eight great grandchildren, Jewel and Olivia Starkey, Christian and Chase Vogel, Summer Deslauriers and Ethan, Madison and Logan Deslauriers; a brother in law, Paul Deslauriers of MA; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Edward J. Deslauriers, who passed away in 1986; a sister, Margaret Sperry; and a nephew, Jack Sperry.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday September 8, 2025 from 4-6pm in the Wareham Village Funeral Home 5 Center Street Wareham parking attendants on duty. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday September 9, 2025 at 10 am in the Church of the Good Shepherd 74 High Street Wareham, MA 02571.
