Paul D. Hamel Sr.

Centerville-Paul D. Hamel, Sr., 81, of Centerville formerly of Wareham and Barnstable, passed away Saturday July 9, 2016 at the Cape Regency Skilled Nursing Facility in Centerville. Mr. Hamel was born in Springfield, MA the son of the late Leo A. and Florence (Quinlivan) Hamel.

Mr. Hamel was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War as a Military Policeman. He was an Honors Graduate of the American International College in Springfield, MA. He spent the majority of his career in broadcasting in various sales positions for radio and television with; WWLP-TV22 in Springfield, WSBK TV 38, WLVI TV 56 and WXNE TV 25. He was the former General Manager of WCIB FM 102 Falmouth and under his leadership it became the most successful property on the Cape in terms of revenue.

A former member of the Falmouth Chamber of Commerce he helped devise a plan to sustain the Christmas Parade as one of the largest and best run parades in Eastern, MA today. He served as a Steward for the Cotuit Federated Church. He helped balance the Church budget and secure a long term workable arrangement with the Cotuit Post Office and acquire the land next to the church.

As a Barnstable resident he was active in the Barnstable Public Schools. He served on the Parent's Advisory Council and helped set up the Barnstable High Band Boosters to improve the music curriculum in the Barnstable Public Schools. He was awarded the Barnstable Band Booster of the year award in 1980.

Following his career in broadcasting Paul opened PDH Enterprises for advertising and financial efforts. He made an n extra effort to embrace causes and helping people. He led an effort to help veterans receive the positive recognition they deserve. He was a friend of Bill W. Memorial gifts may be made to the charity of your choice.
