Bertha L. (Laine / Rantala) Bartlett

Wareham-Bertha (Laine) Bartlett died on August 8, 2019.  She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis L. Bartlett (2006).  She was born in South Carver, MA in 1920, the youngest of 12 children of Frank (Rantala) Laine and Liisa (Kaksi) Laine.  She leaves her son, Robert (Pam) Bartlett of Wells, Maine, her daughter Beverly J. Bartlett and Donna Kennedy of Blue Hill, Maine.  She was the grandmother of John (Donna) Bartlett of Wells, Maine and the great grandmother of Tyler and Lauren Bartlett of Wells, Maine and the grandmother of Robert (Terry) Bartlett of Wells, Maine.  She was the aunt of Debbie Beaton of Kingston, NY. And she was also survived by a special family friend Raymond St. Jacques of Wareham.

Bertha lived in Wareham for most of her life, marrying the first male nurse at the newly opened Tobey Hospital and raising her children in Wareham.  Bertha was many things over the years.  She started working at age 7.  She was a hairdresser; housekeeper, clerk, gardener, child care provider and gas station attendant just to name a few.

She was a founding member of the Wareham Garden Club.  She was an artist in flower arranging and crafting with natural objects such as pine cones and sea shells.  She continued her love of gardening throughout her life.  She had a love of birds and animals, both which gave her great pleasure.  She started life in a time when things were much simpler yet difficult.  She lived through kerosene lamps to Led bulbs: cars without rear windows or heat to luxury cars, outhouses to lavish spas and never imagined all of the electronics of today.

Committal services will be held on Monday August 12, 2019 at 10 am in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, 1 Bennington, Blvd., Bourne, MA 02532.  Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.  Please gather in the cemetery funeral cortege assembly area at 9:30.  To leave a message of condolence for the family please visit www.warehamvillagefuneralhome.com
