Reverend John King Obituary

John D. King, 83, of Rochester, MA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday November 23, 2023.  Husband of 45 years to Barbara (Savino) King of Rochester.

Rev. King was born in Oxford, ME on April 1, 1940 the son of the late John J. King and Thelma (Winslow) Truman.  The eldest of four children, he graduated from South Paris High School  where he was well known as a Basket Ball player and earned the nick name “Big John”,   he also attended Northern Virginia Community College.

In Maine, he worked at A.C. Lawrence Leather of 11 years while becoming the pastor of New Hope Church in Norway, ME.  He later Co-Pastored Hosanna Church in Welchville, ME.  He was the General Manager of Brent-Wyatt Assoc. from 1978-1989 in Falmouth, MA .  He ministered as the Protestant Chaplain at the Dept. of Correction at the Bridgewater Complex.  From November of 1995 to the present, he was the Pastor of the Evangelical Zion Church in West Wareham, MA.  Pastor King was not only a Pastor but a Shepherd and father figure loved by all his family, his church family and so many in the Community.  His Life’s Bible verse was (1Corinthians 15:10a) “But by the Grace of God I am what I am.” He served as the Treasurer of the Wareham Area Clergy Association for 10 years.  He also was the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Camp Clear in Carver, MA for 20 years and was the New England Coordinator of AECC from 2008-2018.

He is also survived by his children: Vicki Boyce  and her husband Kimball of South Paris, ME, Donna Hodson of East Wareham, Tarnya King of Lisbon, ME, Wendy Baker and her husband Lester of Pittsfield, NH, Rev. Lorna Moffett and Her husband Rev. James Moffett of Canon City, CO, Rhonda Brodeur of Worcester, John King Jr. and his Wife Amanda of Groveton, NH, Mark Komorowski of New Bedford.  He was also survived by many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren , nieces , nephews relatives and friends.  He was the father of the late Karen Wentworth, Kevin King, brother of  Mary Jane King of South Paris, ME, and the late Gretchen Paradis and Gary King.
